Rev. McGrath says DO NOT FORGET TO BRING YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE Reverend Janice R. McGrath writes a few words about herself: I am a non-denominational ordained minister who enjoys living in the Texas Hill Country near Fredericksburg, Texas. This is a very scenic and historical area. Fredericksburg was settled by German immigrants in the mid-1800's, and it retains a distinctive German flavor. The Pedernales River flows through Gillespie County, with many parks following its path. This includes the Lyndon B. Johnson State Historical Park with a pool, tennis court, and "party house". The back roads of the area are dotted with old country schools, active and inactive rural churches, vineyards and peach orchards. In the spring, wildflowers abound, especially at the nearby Wildseed Farm. This area is widely known for its many bed and breakfast establishments. You may find them in an old "Sunday House" in town or a converted barn or stable on a ranch along a creek. Some are in brand new buildings, while others are in buildings more than a century old. I enjoy traveling these country roads just to see what is there, and have been blessed with sighting a live oak tree that is reputedly over 800 years old. There are many beautiful settings for picnics, parties, and celebrations of all kinds. It's not unusual to see a wedding taking place along the Pedernales River or in a park or even outside a bed and breakfast. Meeting new people, young and old, is one of the pleasures of life for me. As a minister I strive to assist wherever there is a need. |
